TIP TIMES: Channels and Tipoffs Released for Georgetown Hoyas, Big East

Hoyas will appear on FOX four times

Your Georgetown Hoyas men’s basketball team has released the tipoff times and broadcast information for (almost all of) the 2023-24 schedule. While the dates and opponents were known for a few weeks, the times and channels were not. The few TBD times are Rutgers and DePaul.

A quick look at the schedule reveals that the Hoyas will have only two 8PM tip-offs and three 8:30 PM starts. The 8 o’clock tips will be Saturday, November 11th against Holy Cross for Game #2 and the trip to Marquette on Friday, December 22nd. Nonconference 8:30 PM starts include Merrimack (Wed 11/29) and Coppin State (Tues 12/12). The sole late start in 2024 is the visit to Creighton on Tuesday, February 13th.

Other strange schedule times include an 11:30AM matchup with Syracuse at home and 6:30PM games against Butler (Tues 12/19 and 1/23), Seton Hall (Tues 1/9, Wed 2/7), and at Villanova (Tues 2/27).

Moreover, Georgetown will be on FOX four times—as well as CBS Sports Network three times and the CW once (ND). The rest will be on FS1 or FS2.

The 11/15 game at Rutgers is expected to be on an ESPN cable channel that evening, but Georgetown’s interconference games have been featured on the premium ESPN+ before. That could give it a more normal tip time but make watching it trickier for some Hoyas fans.

Men’s Basketball Releases Tip Times and Broadcast Info for 2023-24 Schedule Presented by MedStar Health

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men’s basketball team has released tipoff times and broadcast information for the 2023-24 schedule, presented by MedStar Health. The schedule is highlighted by four games on FOX, one at home against longtime rival Syracuse (December 9) and three on the road – at UConn (XL Center; January 14), at Providence (Amica Mutual Pavilion; January 27) and at St. John’s (Madison Square Garden; March 9).

BIG EAST ANNOUNCES 2023-24 MEN’S BASKETBALL TV COVERAGE

Broadcast Network Exposure Most In League History

NEW YORK – (September 27, 2023) BIG EAST men’s basketball will enjoy a record number of national broadcast network appearances for the 2023-24 season. Through its relationship with FOX Sports, the BIG EAST has maintained its status as one of the leaders in the number of games appearing on an over-the-air national network. Television network assignments and game times have been announced.

The exposure on the FOX broadcast network includes 22 games, 18 league contests and four non-conference games. CBS Sports will carry three conference contests on CBS and Paramount+. Every conference and non-conference home game will be televised on a linear network, mostly by FOX Sports.

Once again, more than 100 games will be shown on FS1. Additionally, CBS Sports will telecast at least 19 games across CBS Sports Network.

The BIG EAST Tournament at Madison Square Garden will be played March 13-16. FOX and FS1 will continue to televise the event. The BIG EAST Tournament has been held at MSG since 1983. It is college basketball’s longest running conference postseason tournament held at the same venue.

For the third straight year, FOX Sports will provide blanket coverage of the action on November 6, the opening night of the season. BIG EAST Opening Night Tip-Off will include live look-ins on FS1 of seven non-conference contests. Full game coverage for all seven games will be available on the FOX Sports App.

Coverage on the FOX broadcast network begins with a tripleheader on December 9 with three non-conference meetings – Syracuse at Georgetown, UCLA at Villanova and Notre Dame at Marquette.

Villanova will play at Marquette on Jan. 15 on FOX on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The only day when five league contests will be played is Saturday, March 9, the last day of the regular season. FOX or FS1 will televise all five games. St. John’s hosts Georgetown at Madison Square Garden at noon and DePaul plays at Seton Hall at 8:30 p.m. on FS1. Tip for the other three games on FOX will be announced at a later date.

The BIG EAST is coming off its most successful postseason since the league’s change in alignment in 2013-14. Connecticut won its fifth national championship and league teams compiled a 12-4 record in the NCAA Tournament. Creighton reached the Elite Eight. Xavier advanced to the Sweet 16. Marquette made it to the second round and Providence played in the first round. The BIG EAST has averaged 5.2 NCAA bids over the last 10 seasons. Seton Hall and Villanova participated in the NIT.

FS1 will once again televise the Gavitt Tipoff Games. The BIG EAST’s four home contests include Michigan versus St. John’s at Madison Square Garden on November 13. Providence hosts Wisconsin and Iowa visits Creighton on November 14. Maryland plays at Villanova on November 17.

FS1 will telecast the five BIG EAST home contests in the annual BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle. The schedule includes Texas Tech at Butler on November 30, Iowa State at DePaul and Houston at Xavier on December 1, TCU at Georgetown on December 2, and Texas at Marquette on December 6.

Additional Highlights of the 2023-24 schedule:

CBS will telecast three BIG EAST league contests with all three games also streaming live on Paramount+: Creighton at Marquette on Dec. 30, Creighton versus St. John’s at Madison Square Garden on Feb. 25 and Seton Hall at Connecticut on March 3.

CBS Sports Network has another strong lineup of BIG EAST contests, including 16 conference games and three non-conference contests. The first league game is Connecticut at Seton Hall on Dec. 20.

For the ninth straight season, the BIG EAST Tournament championship game at Madison Square Garden will be carried on FOX. Tipoff will be 6:30 p.m. ET. The FS1 tourney coverage will begin with a first-round tripleheader on Wednesday, March 13, at 4 p.m. Quarterfinal doubleheaders will be played Thursday afternoon and evening, March 14. The semifinal doubleheader is Friday, March 15, followed by the title game on Saturday evening, March 16.

The BIG EAST will have a significant Friday night presence with six league telecasts, beginning with Georgetown at Marquette on December 22.

Four games are planned for FOX PRIMETIME HOOPS on Saturday nights throughout the season: St. John’s at Connecticut on Dec. 23, UConn at Villanova on Jan. 20 (pending FOX’s NFL playoff schedule), and Villanova at UConn on Feb. 24. The final PRIMETIME HOOPS game will take place on March 9.

BIG EAST basketball in the 2023-24 season will also be covered on the BIG EAST Digital Network Presented by Invesco QQQ. Shootaround, the BIG EAST’s live men’s basketball online show that captures interviews and highlights of league action, will begin its seventh year. The award-winning program will air on the league’s social media platforms ahead of the biggest games.
