Georgia finally did it – the Bulldogs got over the hump, beat Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide and won a championship last season. Now with all eyes set on the 2022 campaign, Brett McMurphy expects Alabama to return to its national championship form next season.
McMurphy of the Action Network told “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning” this week that he expects Alabama to beat Ohio State in the title game next season.
“You look at Alabama and it’s kind of a cookie-cutter, same thing,” McMurphy said, as transcribed by Saturday Down South. “They lost half a dozen guys to the first round of the NFL draft. OK. (Nick) Saban lost 2 or 3 assistant coaches or he lost both coordinators or 1 coordinator. They lost all this talent. How are they going to reload? And they just do it every year. …
“It looks like Saban is going to keep both coordinators. That could change, seeing what happens with Pete Golding and if Bill O’Brien finds something in the NFL. Who knows? Even if they do make changes there, I’ve learned you can be cute and pick against Alabama, but you’re going to be wrong. I just think Alabama, with Bryce Young coming back, they’re my pick to win it right now.”

Brett McMurphy isn’t exactly going out on a limb here. Alabama’s the safest pick he or anyone else could make.
Ohio State could be a strong challenger, however. The Buckeyes should be improved next season, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
Georgia, meanwhile, is expected to take a step back due to the talent the program is losing to the NFL.
