Colin Kaepernick is striving for an NFL comeback. The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback announced that intention to the world by sharing a workout video on Thursday, but he can only do so much preparation on his own.
On Sunday afternoon, the 34-year-old posted an open call for “professional route runners” to work with him.
“For The past 5 years I’ve been working out and staying ready in case an opportunity to play presented itself,” Kaepernick wrote on Twitter. “I’m really grateful to my trainer, who I’ve been throwing to all this time. But man, do I miss throwing to professional route runners.
Who’s working?? I will pull up.”
Ten minutes later, Tyler Lockett offered to join his former NFC West rival. Kaepernick accepted and said he’d message the Seattle Seahawks wide receiver to arrange the details.
Let’s do it bro! Me and my brother will come run routes for you! https://t.co/MPvZTKA8PG

Love to you and your brother! I’ll be there tomorrow. I’ll dm you to coordinate. https://t.co/wiJFVPnYD0

It just so happens the Seahawks have a recent quarterback vacancy after trading Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos. As a result, the interaction between Kaepernick and Lockett sent fans into a frenzy.

Kaepernick hasn’t played since 2016, the year in which he kneeled during the National Anthem to protest racial inequality and police brutality. It’s unlikely an NFL team will change course and give him another chance six years later.
The odds are against Lockett ever catching passes from Kaepernick in an actual NFL game, but perhaps he could put in a good word to his organization in dire need of quarterback help.
