Despite not having much cap space at the moment, the Dallas Cowboys are expressing interest in one of the top free agents available this offseason.
ESPN’s Ed Werder is reporting that Dallas has already contacted linebacker Bobby Wagner. He was released by the Seattle Seahawks earlier this week.
The Cowboys may have an advantage when it comes to potentially landing Wagner because he has a preexisting relationship with defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.
“Cowboys have contacted free-agent linebacker Bobby Wagner and expressed their interest in having him play for DC Dan Quinn, who coached him in Seattle,” Werder said. “Whether the financial components work out is yet to be determined. The two will keep in contact next few days.”

Wagner arguably had a Hall of Fame career with the Seahawks, but the organization ultimately decided that it was best for both parties to go their separate ways this offseason.
During the 2021 season, Wagner had 170 combined tackles, one sack and an interception. His production on the field earned him second-team All-Pro honors.
Since the Cowboys might lose Leighton Vander Esch in free agency, it makes sense for them to keep tabs on Wagner. Not only would he be an upgrade at the position, he’d give Quinn’s defense a vocal leader.
