It’s been a while since we heard from former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden, who is suing the NFL over his ousting back in October.
The NFL is reportedly trying to move Gruden’s lawsuit against the league into arbitration. But according to Vic Tafur of The Athletic, Gruden not only doesn’t want that, he finds it “unconscionable.”
Gruden was ousted as head coach of the Raiders in the middle of last season after leaked emails revealed some racist message he sent while working for ESPN. He resigned in the fallout and promptly sued the NFL over “interfering with his contractual relationships.”
As part of his defense, Gruden has taken to slamming the NFL for having double-standards. One aspect he’s harping on is the recent lawsuit over alleged racist hiring practices opened by former Dolphins head coach Brian Flores.
The Raiders went on to make the playoffs under interim head coach Rich Bisaccia.

While the circumstances surrounding the release of those emails was dubious, the content was still terrible.
Jon Gruden made all kinds of racist, homophobic and sexist comments in them over the course of years. Once they were released, it was impossible for Gruden to keep his job – no matter how loudly he accuses the NFL of hypocrisy.
If Gruden isn’t willing to arbitrate then it’s likely that this lawsuit will take a very long time.
In the meantime, it’s unlikely that we’ll see Gruden on the NFL sidelines ever again.
