Last week, the Indianapolis Colts agreed to trade quarterback Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders. Wentz’s tenure in Indy lasted one season.
While things may not have worked out with the Colts for the former No. 2 overall pick, Wentz did leave a classy goodbye message to the organization and its fans on Twitter this afternoon.
He also included a statement on his next destination, and what he’s feeling about the opportunity with the Commanders.
“I’m looking forward to getting to Washington. This organization has a rich history and a roster full of talent,” Wentz said. “I’m going to do everything I can this offseason to prepare for a special season, and I can’t wait to see you at FedEx Field this fall.”

Wentz was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2016, and he spent his first five seasons with the team. Before tearing his ACL late in the 2017 season, he was playing at a near-MVP level.
However, injuries began taking their toll on Wentz, and he wore out his welcome in Philly, which led to a trade to the Colts last offseason. With Indianapolis, he showed flashes of brilliance mixed in with inconsistency and some inexplicable blunders.
Now, we’ll see if the third team is the charm for Wentz.
