Veteran MLB pitcher Matt Harvey admitted to using cocaine during his testimony at former Angels communications director Eric Kay’s federal trial Tuesday.
Kay is facing two felony charges related to the 2019 death of Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs. He is accused of distributing fentanyl to Skaggs, who was found dead in a hotel room while on a team road trip in Texas in June 2019.
On the stand today, Harvey discussed his own usage of oxycodone and admitted to providing Skaggs with Percocet when they were teammates.
Additionally, Harvey shared that he used cocaine earlier in his career while with the New York Mets and was still using when he played in Los Angeles.

Harvey began his career with the Mets in 2012 and stayed with the franchise until midway through the 2018 season. A 2013 All-Star and 2015 NL Comeback Player of the Year, Harvey was well-known for enjoying the good life in Gotham.
Today’s admission definitely confirms that was the case. While Harvey is one of the biggest names to appear on the witness stand, Kay is the one whose future hangs in the balance.
If he is convicted, the former Angels employee would face a minimum of 20 years in prison.
