The Players Championship came to a halt on Friday afternoon due to inclement weather. Unfortunately, golf fans’ worst fears were just confirmed by the latest update.
Play has been officially suspended for the remainder of the day at TPC Sawgrass. To make matters worse, the earliest play will resume on Saturday is 11 a.m. because the Florida weather shows no sign of clearing up.
Before this announcement was made, Gary Young, the chief referee of The Players, said a Monday finish would be likely if play didn’t resume this Friday afternoon.
“We may be in a situation where, if we don’t get back out there today, we’re assured of a Monday finish,” Young said, via USA TODAY.
Now that we know play is suspended until Saturday, a Monday finish seems inevitable.
Play has been suspended for the remainder of the day at @THEPLAYERSChamp. Due to another system rolling into NE Florida tomorrow morning the earliest play will resume on Saturday is 11:00 am.

As of now, Tommy Fleetwood, Tom Hoge and Brice Garnett and are at the top of the leaderboard.
Fleetwood and Hoge both posted a 6-under 66 in the first round. Garnett, meanwhile, was 6-under par with five holes remaining.
Hopefully, the rain steers clear from the 2022 Players Championship this weekend.
