Maryland State Police charged a Cecil County woman with the murder of her infant child on Wednesday, according to a release from state police.
Destiny Faith Chiveral, 24, of Charlestown, faces charges of first-degree murder and first-degree child abuse resulting in death, along with what State Police labeled as “related offenses”. She is being held without bond at the Cecil County Detention Center.
Per the statement, authorities were called out to a home on Leedle Circle shortly after 9 a.m. on Dec. 4, in response to a 911 call. Upon arrival, they found Chiveral’s five-week-old infant and EMS personnel pronounced her dead on scene.
The baby was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, where an autopsy found evidence of trauma.
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit took over the case and, after consulting with the Cecil County State’s Attorney’s Office, obtained search warrants for Chiveral’s phone, her person and two associated residences. State Police officials said in their statement that evidence recovered during those searches provided probable cause for the charges.
Chiveral was arrested without incident Wednesday night. She then appeared before a district court commissioner and is currently being held without bond at the Cecil County Detention Center.
