A Guatemalan national who lived in Beltsville has been indicted on illegal reentry charges after being deported three times in three decades.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland, Bayron Leopoldo Perez Batres, 63, unlawfully entered the U.S. after being deported in January 1996, September 2009 and May 2010. Perez Batres reentered the U.S. after each deportation without reapplying for admission.
If found guilty, Perez Batres faces up to two years in federal prison. The investigation and indictment were a part of Operation Take Back America, a Trump administration and U.S. Department of Justice initiative targeting illegal immigrants for deportation in an effort to eliminate cartels.
