High school sports roundup (Dec. 8)

Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Friday, Dec. 8.

Girls basketball

Hammond 53, Glenelg 19: Nia Green led the Golden Bears (2-0) in the win with 13 points and seven rebounds. Asia Mitchell added nine points and 10 rebounds. For Glenelg (1-1), Reese Holden had seven points.

Centennial 44, Wilde Lake 30: The Eagles (1-1) earned their first win of the year as Adria Welsh led the way with 13 points. Ayanna Moore added 10 points. For Wilde Lake (0-2), Quinn Corkeron had 13 points.

Reservoir 51, Marriotts Ridge 29: The Gators (2-0) earned another win to start the season led by Alissa Young’s 12 points, and 10 more from Jasmin Shelton. Nia George also contributed nine points in the win. For Marriotts Ridge (0-2), Lamees Bazzi had 11 points.

Howard 39, Long Reach 26: The Lions (2-0) earned a second straight win to open the season as Alana Harrison scored a team-high 14. Kadirah Carroll added seven. For Long Reach (1-1), Morgan Enlow and Sydney Nance each had eight points.

Oakland Mills 31, Mt. Hebron 18: The Scorpions (1-1) earned their first win of the season as Chloe Grenway scored 13 points, while Destiny Macharia added eight. For Mt. Hebron (0-2), Pearl Prasartkarnka had seven points.

Severna Park 56, Arundel 12: The host Falcons took a 17-4 lead over the Wildcats in the first quarter. Gabby Rosati had 11 points and Charley Coward had nine points for Severna Park.

Southern 64, Indian Creek 39: Ava Wooster recorded her 500th career rebound and the visiting Bulldogs (2-0) beat the Eagles (2-2). Wooster finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Broadneck 42, Old Mill 39: The visiting Bruins extended their one-point lead with a 14-6 run in the second quarter and beat the Patriots. Mackenzie Wharton had 16 points and Samantha Miller had 11 points for Broadneck.

Chesapeake-AA 48, Northeast 25: Kaila Ansted scored 12 points to lead the visiting Cougars (2-0) past the Eagles. Kasey Slade had nine points and 13 rebounds and Maggie Lawrence had seven points and 11 rebounds for Chesapeake-AA.Kamaria Brown had eight points and Brynn Jones had six points for Northeast.

Severn 36, Park 17: Amyah Heyliger had nine points and Nyelahad Djossou had eight points to lead the Admirals (3-1) over the Bruins. Severn travels to Mount de Sales on Wednesday.

Hereford 44, Catonsville 21: The Bulls outscored the Comets 14-2 in the first quarter and never looked back. Lauren Kraft scored nine of her game-high 23 points in the opening quarter.

Eastern Tech 36, Lansdowne 20: The Mavericks topped the Vikings, powered by 13 points from Madison Bohart.

Carver A&T 59, Owings Mills 16: Elisah Guity led the Wildcats with 21 points. Laila Brandon was tops on the glass, pulling down nine rebounds.

Pikesville 51, Loch Raven 32: The visiting Panthers beat the Raiders. Freshman Maya Chase led the way with 16 points. Sophomore Mariah Jones-Bey chipped in nine points while handing out four assists. Darielle Weems added nine rebounds in the win.

Havre de Grace 57, Perryville 22: The visiting Warriors beat the Panthers. Havre de Grace was led by Azareya Whiting with 17 points, 13 rebounds and seven steals. Savannah Lawrence had 11 points and four rebounds and Sanai Knox had 10 points and eight rebounds in the Warriors’ third win of the week.

Boys basketball

Aberdeen 63, Fallston 60: The Eagles led by one at the half and held on for a nail biting win. Senior Darion Parris had a team-high 16 points. Seniors Justin Franklin and Austin Carter each finished with 15.

Hammond 51, Glenelg 34: Justin Campbell scored 13 points and Justin Christan had 12 points to lead the visiting Bears over the Gladiators. Paul Piwowarski had 10 points for Glenelg.

Marriotts Ridge 58, Reservoir 55: Jack Bonner scored 24 points to lead the visiting Mustangs past the Gators. Rahul Jampan and Res Whitaker each had nine  points for Marriotts Ridge.

Eastern Tech 73, Lansdowne 36: The Mavericks got a balanced offensive effort in the big win. Adrian Pefianco led with 12 points. Jericho Wondeye and Isaiah Southall were right behind him, each scoring 11.

Archbishop Spalding 58, Gilman 46: The visiting Cavaliers (5-1, 1-1 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference Black Division) used tough defense to beat the Greyhounds (1-1, 0-1). Spalding was led by Malik Washington (14 points, 10 rebounds), TJ Moultrie (14 points) and Elijah Barrett (13 points).

Southern 67, Chesapeake Science Point 28: Brian Griffin scored 24 points to lead the host Bulldogs over the Tigers. Oluwagbotemi Ogungbile had nine points for Chesapeake SP.

South River 70, Annapolis 49: James Crimaudo had 18 points and 13 rebounds and Liam Barney had 19 points and Jack Schrader had 14 points to lead the host Bulldogs over the Panthers.

Westminster 63, Key School 38: The host Owls (1-1) used tough defense to hold the Obezags (0-3) to one point in the third quarter. Micah Ozgar had 11 points, Charlie Mollman had 10 points and Jah Donald had eight rebounds, three blocks and seven points for Westminster.

South Carroll 72, Boonsboro 26: The Cavaliers were led by Owen Keesey with 15 points in the big win. Caleb Evans added 11 points and Jake Johnson chipped in 10.

McDonogh 68, Academy of the New Church (Pa.) 63: Ashton Kendall scored 18 points to lead the Eagles (3-0) past the Lions at the Don McBride Classic tournament at Haverford (Pa.). McDonogh advances to Saturday’s championship at 2 p.m. versus the host Fords. Other top scorers were: Robert Fields with 16 points and Jeff Exinor with 15 points.
