High school sports roundup (Sept. 8)

Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Monday, Sept. 8

Field hockey

Centennial 18, Guilford Park 0: Caroline Cudzilo led the Eagles’ offensive onslaught with five goals and three assists. Claire Whipkey and Ella Petrlik each scored three goals with Whipkey adding two assists. Gianna Baer had two goals and one assist and Ava Rudy handed our three assists.

Marriotts Ridge 2, Reservoir 1: The Mustangs outlasted the Gators in a tight low-scoring battle. Caroline Wojtech scored both Marriotts Ridge’s goals as Sadie Perrier and Mackenzie Tasch delivered the assists.

Long Reach 6, River Hill 1: Drexel commit Leilani Stewart (three goals, one assist) and William & Mary commit Sam Legge (one goal, three assists) lead the win. Grace Miller scored twice, while Morgan Reynolds added two assists. Olivia Creighton scored River Hill’s lone goal.

Hammond 2, Blake 0: The Golden Bears opened the season wit a win as Buelah Adwole and Savannah De Leeuw each scored. Riley Endres and Gia Mansolillo assisted the goals, while Abby Lee made nine saves.

North Harford 8, North East 0: Lola Minor had a hat trick to lead the Hawks in the shutout win. Olivia Daly backed her with two goals, while Alison Smithson, Lily Franz and Peyton Dawson all added goals.

Elkton 7, Edgewood 0: The Rams were held scoreless in their season opener and will face Patterson Mill on Tuesday.

Bel Air 3, The Tome School 0: Kimberly Mallon, Lyla Delossantos and Avery Frank scored for Bel Air in its season opener.

Catonsville 3, Carver A&T 2: Comets freshman Brenna Shelley had a hat trick in only her second varsity game. Her third goal came in overtime and was the game-winner for Catonsville (1-1).

Girls volleyball

Gerstell 3, Indian Creek 0: The Falcons cruised to the victory, 25-11, 25-13, 25-15. Leah Wilson had eight of Gerstell’s 24 aces on the night. She also totaled 15 assists and five kills. Alexis Gilotte finished with 10 assists, five kills and four aces. Salma Tigoudar chipped in five aces and four kills.

Boys volleyball

Patterson Mill 3, Aberdeen 0: The Huskies swept the Eagles 25-8, 25-6, 25-10. Titus Lyttle served nine aces to lead the win. Landon Evans put down a team-high six kills. Cullen Young finished with five kills and two aces.

C. Milton Wright 3, North Harford 0: The Mustangs swept the Hawks — the reigning Harford County runner-up — 25-18, 25-11, 25-23. Brody Hichkad led C. Milton Wright with 12 kills and six aces.

Girls soccer

Howard 5, Oakland Mills 0: The Lions earned a dominant win in their county opener. Katy Armor, Kelsey Kartanowicz, Brynn Bartlett, Raymah Quist-Therson and Londyn Minor scored Howard’s goals. Noelle Hall had two assists, while Bartlett and Kartanowicz each had one.

Patterson Mill 2, C. Milton Wright 1: Josie Baldwin and Samantha Wright scored for the Huskies, who led 1-0 at halftime. Blake Elliott scored the Mustangs’ lone goal.

Reservoir 8, Guilford Park 0: The Gators earned a dominant win in the season opener. For Guilford Park, J’adore Anderson made 12 saves.

Rising Sun 3, North Harford 1: The Hawks were nearly held scoreless before Elena Ramirez netted their only goal with less than three minutes to play.

Century 1, Wooten 0: Riley Poe scored the game’s lone goal with 40 seconds remaining to give the Knights the win. Megan Taltavull had seven saves for Century.

Boys soccer

Edgewood 6, Joppatowne 1: Erick Navarrete led the Rams, who led 4-1 at halftime, with two goals.

Golf

Howard boys 62, Atholton 61: Damian Biak scored a match-best 24 points to lead the Lions in a narrow win. Meanwhile, Dylan Giuliano scored 22 points for Atholton.

Howard girls 58, Atholton 25: Andie Chung scored 20 points to lead the Lions in the dominant win.
