There can be a solution to the controversy raised in the letter: “Harris must show interest in welfare of children post-womb” (Mar. 19). To condense from the end of the letter: “It’s hypocritical to be pro-life … and ignore children after they are born.” The Biden administration acts heavy-handed toward pregnancy resource centers but shows preference toward Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Planned Parenthood, which performs abortions in addition to other reproductive health care services, is heavily supported financially by government agencies and Medicare reimbursements (though there are restrictions on federal funding of abortions), not to mention corporate entities, patient fees and big-money private donors. All told, it adds up to hundreds of millions of dollars every year.
I invoke the John Lennon song when I say: “Imagine” if those hundreds of millions were spent on post-womb children for housing, material needs, day care centers, foster care, adoption, etc., instead of abortion. “It’s easy if you try.”
