New Windsor Town Council member Kevin Cornick was elected the town’s new mayor Tuesday, defeating Ashley Collier.
Cornick received 182 votes to Collier’s 77.
The town’s current mayor, Neal Roop, did not run for reelection. He was first elected to the position in 2012 and held it until he was defeated in May 2021 by Andrew Green. When Green resigned as mayor after serving only 10 months, the New Windsor Town Council appointed Roop mayor again.
Only one person was on the ballot for Town Council, Dante Howard. Since two seats are available, the Town Council will appoint a resident to fill the second vacancy. Howard received 204 votes.
A total of 259 residents voted in the election, according to Dana Mangus, the town’s clerk and treasurer. The town has 1,313 registered voters.
Cornick is finishing his first four-year term as a member of the Town Council. He also served four years on the New Windsor Planning Commission, after he was appointed in 2017.
Collier has lived in New Windsor since 2006. She has worked as director of community development for the Town of Mount Airy since September 2015.
