Maryland announces additions of Diggy Coit, Isaiah Watts

May 7, 2025 by Zags Blog

Guards David “Diggy” Coit and Isaiah Watts have officially signed with the Maryland men’s basketball team as announced today by new head coach Buzz Williams. Coit joins the Terrapins after playing last season at Kansas, while Watts spent the previous two seasons at Washington State.

The addition of Coit and Watts brings Maryland’s official transfer class to eight as they join previously announced Pharrel Payne (Texas A&M), Solomon Washington (Texas A&M), Andre Mills (Texas A&M), George Turkson, Jr. (Texas A&M), Myles Rice (Indiana), and Elijah Saunders (Virginia).

Coit is a 5-foot-11 guard, joining Maryland after previous stops at Kansas, Northern Illinois and Atlantic Cape CC. The Columbus, NJ, native has played in 92 career games averaging 13.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists. Last year, he averaged 5.1 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 34 games at Kansas. His best season at the collegiate level came at Northern Illinois in 2023-24 where he averaged 20.8 points, 3.4 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game. He has tallied six total 30-point games, including a career-high 37 vs. Buffalo, and has recorded 25 20-point games throughout his career. He is a two-time All-MAC selection (2023, 2024) as well as a two-time NABC All-District selection in those same years. In 2022, he was also tabbed the Garden State Athletic Conference Player of the Year after his season at Atlantic Cape.

“Diggy is a veteran scorer who brings a much-needed spark to our backcourt. His ability to put points on the board and create opportunities for his teammates will have an immediate impact,” said Williams. “Diggy is the type of player who embraces the challenge and understands what it takes to succeed at the highest level. Here at Maryland, we pride ourselves on toughness, resilience, and representing the Terrapin tradition of excellence—and Diggy embodies all of those qualities.”

A 6-foot-3 guard, Watts joins the Terps after playing two seasons at Washington State where he averaged 6.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 54 games played. He has 367 career points, 115 rebounds, 63 assists, and 53 steals through two seasons. In his sophomore campaign, Watts averaged 11.0 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists. The West Seattle native had three 20-point games with a season-high and career-high 22 points against Eastern Washington (11/21).

“Isaiah is an athletic shooting guard who brings an added dimension to our offense with his scoring ability and shooting range. As a player, what stands out is his ability to make plays on both ends of the floor. Isaiah’s athleticism, combined with his defensive toughness, fits perfectly into our defensive-first mentality,” said Williams. “He has the versatility to guard multiple positions, and his effort on that side of the ball will help set the tone for us. His skillset will make him a difference-maker as we continue to build a program that values tough, hard-nosed defense while remaining dynamic on offense.”

Maryland is coming off a 27-9 campaign in 2024-25 which saw the Terps reach the NCAA Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2016. In Big Ten play, Maryland finished second in the final standings with a 14-6 league record and reached the Big Ten Tournament semifinals for the first time since 2016.

On April 2, Maryland introduced Williams who will enter his first year at the helm this season. Williams has led his programs to 11 NCAA Tournament appearances and 13 20-win seasons in 18 years as a head coach.
