Listed at 6-foot-3 and 290 pounds, Rice posted 30 tackles (10 solo), 8.5 tackles for loss and three sacks in 12 games last year. He only started in one game.
Rice, who played quarterback and linebacker in high school, began his collegiate career as a walk-on at West Virginia, ranked as a two-star recruit by 247Sports. He then transferred to Division II West Liberty, where Rice dominated with 89 tackles, 37 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks, 11 pass breakups and six forced fumbles across two seasons.
A Morgantown, West Virginia, native, Rice joins a defensive line stripped of nearly all its production through graduation and Lavon Johnson’s decision to transfer. Rice faces little competition for a starting spot as the most experienced player at the position.
He has one year of eligibility remaining.
