The Terps will begin tournament play against the winner of Robert Morris and Air Force.
Maryland men’s lacrosse was given the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament bracket Sunday evening. The Terps begin the NCAA Tournament against the winner of Robert Morris and Air Force. Maryland’s opening game will start at 2:30 p.m. on May 11 at SECU Stadium.
The Terps had a realistic chance to earn the No. 1 overall seed entering the weekend. A win over Ohio State in the Big Ten championship would likely have done it for the Terps, who entered Saturday first in RPI but dropped behind Cornell.
Instead, Maryland earned the No. 2 seed for the fourth time overall and the first time in head coach John Tillman’s tenure. This also marks the 22nd consecutive year that Maryland has made the NCAA Tournament.
As was widely expected after Maryland’s loss, the Big Red received the top overall seed after beating Princeton in the Ivy League Championship. The Terps ended up sandwiched by Ivy League teams, as the Tigers earned the No. 3 seed. Maryland’s Big Ten opponents, Ohio State and Penn State, earned the No. 4 seed and No. 5 seed, respectively.
If the Terps are able to win against either Robert Morris or Air Force, they will go on to face the winner of No. 7-seed Duke and Georgetown in Annapolis the following weekend.
