The all-conference tight end represents Maryland’s most notable loss so far this offseason.

Maryland football tight end Corey Dyches announced Saturday his intentions to enter the transfer portal.

Dyches, who garnered All-Big Ten honors this year for the second consecutive season, represents Maryland’s biggest loss to the portal so far this offseason. He established himself as one of the top pass-catching tight ends in the nation in 2023, totaling 49 receptions — the most among Big Ten tight ends and fourth among FBS tight ends — for 491 yards.

Among players with eligibility to return to Maryland next season, Dyches ranked first on the team in receptions, third in receiving yards and fourth in receiving touchdowns.

The Oxon Hill, Md., native finished his redshirt junior season with 107 career receptions for 1,193 yards and nine touchdowns.

“All great things come to an end,” Dyches said in an Instagram post. “Grateful to be a Terp and forever will be.”

One of the potential heirs to Dyches’ starting role announced his impending departure on Friday, with freshman Rico Walker making his intentions known in a post to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. Walker was Maryland’s highest-rated recruit in the class of 2023, originally listed as an edge rusher before transitioning to tight end in the preseason. He made four catches for 27 yards in 2023.

As it currently stands, Maryland has four tight ends set to return next year, with redshirt freshman Preston Howard and freshman Dylan Wade the only ones receiving notable playing time this season.

Other than Dyches and Walker, three other Terps have announced their intentions to enter the transfer portal this offseason. Defensive backs Gavin Gibson and Tamarcus Cooley, as well as offensive lineman Ja’Kavion Nonar, have also declared that they will enter their names in the portal when it officially opens on Dec. 4.
