The Terps look for a win at home.

After a three-match road trip, Maryland women’s soccer (2-2-3) heads back home Sunday to celebrate its senior day against VCU.

The Terps will be honoring Liz Beardsley, Katie Coyle, Halle Johnson, Kat Parris, Brooke Tracey and Lauren Wrigley.

Sunday’s match will kick off at noon from Ludwig Field, with senior day festivities occurring prior to start time. The match will be aired on Big Ten Plus.

VCU Rams (0-5, 0-0-0 Atlantic 10)

2023 record: 5-9-4, 4-4-2 Atlantic 10

VCU comes into Sunday’s match without a win this season, losing five straight games to Old Dominion, Liberty, N.C. State, William & Mary and No. 4 Virginia.

The Rams look to earn their first win of 2024 Sunday after winning five games last year.

Players to watch

Kanna Matsuhisa, senior midfielder, No. 5 — The Tokyo native leads the Rams with two goals and an assist this season. She recorded three goals and two assists in 2023 and four goals in 2022. Matsuhisa has been a big contributor for VCU in her four seasons with the team.

Kendyl Sarver, junior forward, No. 12 — Sarver is the only other goal scorer for VCU in 2024. She has taken five shots, three of which were on goal this season.

Allison Karpovich, senior goalkeeper, No. 1 — Karpovich is VCU’s starting goaltender in 2024; she was also the team’s starter in 2023. This season, she’s allowed 12 goals for a 2.5 goals against average. She also has made 19 saves for a 61.3% save percentage.

Strength

Shots on goal. The Rams have taken 42 shot attempts this season, 19 of them have been on target. That is good for a 45.2% shots on goal percentage.

Weakness

Goals. VCU has scored three goals in five games this season, while being outscored 12-3 this season.

Three things to watch

1. Senior Day. Maryland women’s soccer will be honoring seven seniors on Sunday to commemorate their final season in College Park. This year’s senior class consists of some of the most impactful players in Maryland’s lineup, including Beardsley, Johnson, Coyle, Tracey and Wrigley.

2. Can the Terps finish off nonconference play strong? Sunday is Maryland’s final nonconference match for the 2024 season. Conference play begins on Thursday as the Terps host Michigan State. The Terps did not win a conference match in 10 tries in 2023.

3. Back at home. Maryland was 1-1-1 in the three-match road trip over the past two weeks. The Terps are back at Ludwig Field where they are 0-1-2 in 2024.
