This is a Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.

Maryland football redshirt sophomore tight end Preston Howard, a two-year starter, announced Friday on Instagram he will enter the transfer portal.

Howard started in 21 of the 24 games he played in over the past two seasons, missing just one game early in 2024 with an injury. His receiving numbers were somewhat underwhelming this year, recording 24 catches for 189 yards and no touchdowns. His backup, sophomore Dylan Wade, eclipsed him in all three categories.

Howard is listed at 6-foot-4 and 236 pounds and was primarily used as an inline tight end, playing a key role in run blocking.

Howard is the second Maryland tight end to enter the transfer portal after redshirt junior Leron Husbands did so in November. Wade and redshirt sophomore Leon Haughton Jr. are the Terps’ only remaining tight ends who saw the field in 2024.
