Maryland athletics received a $1.625 million donation from school alumni Margie and Bob Bedingfield that will help create two athletics scholarships in perpetuity, the school announced Wednesday.
The gift will provide funding for the Margie and Bob Bedingfield Endowed Scholarship for Men’s Basketball, supporting a player on the men’s basketball team, and the Margie and Bob Bedingfield Endowed Scholarship for Athletics, which will support an athlete from any team with priority given to men’s basketball and both golf teams.
Margie Bedingfield graduated from Maryland in 1972, while Bob Bedingfield graduated in 1970. Both have been involved with volunteer efforts surrounding the school, according to Maryland Athletics’ statement.
“We are strong advocates for the vital role that sports, and specifically collegiate athletics, plays in developing future leaders in business and community,” Bob Bedingfield said in the statement.
