MM 3.11: No. 11 Maryland men’s basketball reaches highest ranking of Kevin Willard era

This is a Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.

Maryland men’s basketball climbed to No. 11 in the final Associated Press top-25 poll of the regular season, its highest ranking since before head coach Kevin Willard took over prior to the 2022-23 season.

Maryland men’s basketball rose two spots to No. 11 in the final AP top-25 poll of the season. It’s the Terps’ highest ranking since the 2019-20 season, when they were ranked No. 9 in the March 2 poll.

The boost comes after back-to-back wins over then-No. 17 Michigan on the road — who fell to No. 22 — and Northwestern on the Terps’ senior day. It’s their highest ranking since the 2019-20 season, when they spent all of February and most of November and December in the top-10.

Maryland finished its regular season with a 24-7 overall record and 14-6 conference record, tying its highest marks in both categories since that 2019-20 pandemic-shortened season. It enters the Big Ten Tournament as the No. 2 seed for the first time since 2015, and is currently projected by ESPN as a No. 4-seed in March Madness.
