Maryland women’s basketball received a much-needed boost to its frontcourt when Rhode Island transfer Mayé Touré announced her commitment to the Terps Sunday.
Touré is Maryland’s third incoming transfer this cycle, joining guards Sarah Te-Biasu and Kaylene Smikle.
Touré, who stands at 6-foot-2 and hails from France, spent the first four years of her college career with Rhode Island, breaking out as a junior. During that season, she averaged 13.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. She was selected to the All-Atlantic 10 first team and was named the conference’s most improved player.
She once again paced the Rams statistically this past season, leading the squad in both points (12.5) and rebounds (7.6) per game. She recorded five double-doubles and registered at least 15 points on 13 occasions.
Additionally, Tourè served as a rim protector, recording 64 blocks over the last two seasons.
Following Touré’s commitment, head coach Brenda Frese has three scholarship spots left to fill.
