This is the Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.
Maryland softball graduates Courtney Wyche and Diamond Williams were both named to the NFCA All-Midwest Region third team, the association announced Saturday.
Wyche led the Terps’ pitching staff. She finished fifth in Big Ten with 183 2⁄3 innings pitched and struck out a career-high 19 batters in a win over No. 22 Penn State. She finished her career at Maryland ranked fourth all-time in school wins (54) and third all-time in strikeouts (668). She also ended the season with a 3.63 ERA.
Meanwhile, Williams has been a key member for the Terps since transferring from Coastal Carolina. In her only year at Maryland, Williams blasted the fourth-most home runs in a single season in program history with 14. She placed fifth in the Big Ten in home runs and finished the season batting .291.
The two players helped lead Maryland to a first-round victory in the Big Ten Tournament over No. 7-seed Penn State — just its second Big Ten Tournament win in team history.
