
This is the Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.
Five Maryland baseball players took home Big Ten honors, the conference announced on Tuesday. Eddie Hacopian and Sam Hojnar received first-team honors, Logan Berrier and Chris Hacopian earned second-team nods and Jacob Orr won Maryland’s Sportsmanship Award. Chris Hacopian was also named to the all-freshman team.
Starting in all 56 games for the Terps at first base, Eddie Hacopian led the team in batting average (.377), hits (83), runs (53), stolen bases (6) and walks (56) this year. His .377 batting average was also the third-highest in the Big Ten.
Hojnar was Maryland’s premier power hitter this season, leading the team in home runs and RBIs, while posting a .275 batting average. His 16 home runs and 57 RBIs were the third and fifth-most in the conference. As a redshirt senior, Hojnar started in all 56 games primarily at second base.
Berrier was the Terps’ go-to relief pitcher this season, making 20 appearances. He finished the year with a 7-1 record, 41 2⁄3 innings pitched and a 2.8 earned run average. He also posted 38 strikeouts and seven saves — the second-most in the Big Ten.
Chris Hacopian dominated as a freshman, totaling a .323 batting average, 72 hits and 15 home runs, all of which ranked second on the team. The third baseman started in all 55 of his appearances.
Orr brought home the sportsmanship award, which is given to a player who has distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. He started in 48 of his 56 games played, ending the season with a .254 batting average, 46 hits and three home runs.

Maryland football will take on Northwestern on Friday, Oct. 11 at 8 p.m., it was announced Wednesday. The two teams were originally scheduled to meet on Oct. 12.
