Maryland men’s basketball announced the signing of coaches Steve Gephardt and Eddie Benion on Tuesday.

Benion, who will be Maryland men’s basketball’s head athletic trainer and director of sports medicine, worked with Maryland head coach Buzz Williams at Texas A&M for six seasons in the former role. He was also an assistant athletics director for sports medicine during Williams’ final season at Virginia Tech. Benion joins the Terps with 27 years of experience at Division I schools and is expected to play a major role in the team’s wellness.
Gephardt, who was named the director of strength and resilience, also followed Williams from Texas A&M, having joined the program in 2020. Before that, Gephardt spent 13 seasons as TCU’s associate head strength and conditioning coach.
The signings of Benion and Gephardt come just a day after the confirmation of two other coaches, with Williams rapidly filling out his staff.

Longtime Maryland football broadcaster Tim Strachan died Tuesday. He was 49 years old.

Former Maryland All-American offensive lineman and wrestler Roger Shoals, who played nine seasons in the NFL, died June 30. He was 86 years old.
