This is a Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.
Maryland football senior linebacker Ruben Hyppolite II has been named to the Butkus Award Watch List, which recognizes the nation’s top linebacker each year.
Entering his fifth season at College Park, Hyppolite has been a fixture at linebacker for the past three seasons. Last year, he served as a team captain and ranked second on the team with 66 tackles.
With the departures of Fa’Najae Gotay and Jaishawn Barham, Hyppolite is expected to take on an even larger role in the defense, anchoring the middle of the field. He has already accumulated 170 career tackles over 39 games.
This marks Hyppolite’s first appearance on the Butkus Award Watch List. Semifinalists will be announced on Nov. 4, with finalists to follow on Nov. 25.
