This is a Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.
Maryland football’s Billy Edwards Jr. was named to the preseason watch list for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, an honor given to the nation’s top senior or upperclassman quarterback, the organization announced Wednesday.
63 quarterbacks are nominated for the watch list. 13 of the Big Ten’s 18 starting quarterbacks were included.
Edwards is a primary contender to succeed Taulia Tagovailoa as the Terps’ top signal caller. He has two career starts under his belt — both of which he won, including a 31-13 victory over Auburn in the Music City Bowl — and was used as a rushing threat at times last season.
NC State transfer MJ Morris, Cameron Edge and Champ Long are also possible starting quarterbacks for Maryland. Only Edwards was named to the watch list.
