This is the Maryland Minute, a short story followed by a roundup of Terps-related news.
Maryland student-athletes that have acquired their undergraduate degrees will have a commemorative patch on their uniforms, Maryland Athletics announced earlier today.
The uniforms will be debuting this week for the lot of Maryland sports that are currently in-season, including football, field hockey, men’s and women’s soccer as well as volleyball. The word “GRADUATE” will be displayed on their jersey.
“Earning your college degree is an achievement that takes discipline, commitment, and perseverance. We are proud of our student-athletes who have achieved excellence in the classroom while also competing at the highest level,” Maryland Athletics Director Damon Evans said in a press release. “We wanted to recognize these student-athletes by celebrating that accomplishment with a special patch on their Maryland uniforms. With this new initiative, our graduates will earn attention from their teammates and staff as well supporters and fans watching in the stadium or on television. We couldn’t be prouder to debut the new Graduate patches this week.”
There will be 56 Maryland student-athletes that will have the patch for the 2021-22 season with more being added to that total after graduation in the fall semester.
