The mindset of a two-time state champion always leans on wanting more.
Back in April, The Aegis 2022-23 boys Swimmer of the Year Kade Snyder said that after setting a state record in the 100 backstroke at the Class 3A/2A/1A state meet, he wanted to “shoot for some different events” in his senior season at Patterson Mill.
Specifically, Snyder, a University of Delaware commit, had his sights set on the 100-yard butterfly. At University of Maryland’s Eppley Recreation Center over the weekend, Snyder’s manifestation paid off with a state title and state record of 48.04 seconds in the 100 fly. The record was previously set by Alex Colson in 2019.
Snyder also earned the top spot, now three-peating in boys 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 48.58 –– more than five seconds ahead of second-place finisher Gavin Carson from Harford Tech.
Snyder was additionally the third leg of the Huskies’ boys 200 medley relay, finishing 13th among 24 teams with a time of 1:48.70. Harford Tech was fifth (1:43.81) in the event, Bel Air placed ninth (1:45.87) and C. Milton Wright’s team finished 14th (1:49.87).
Harford Tech’s Megan Nguyen finished fingertips from a state title in the girls 100 fly. Her time of 59.8 was good for second place behind Cedar Gallaudet from Northern (59.0).
In the girls 200 individual medley, Nguyen placed fourth with a time of 2:19.53. Fallston junior Kate Taylor was close behind in 2:23.83, good for seventh place.
Carson finished third in the boys 100 freestyle with a time of 48.86.
Bel Air junior Colin O’Hare placed fifth in the boys 200 freestyle in 1:49.43. C. Milton Wright junior Ellie Hanson finished fifth in the same event on the girls side with a time of 2:02.4. Hanson later finished third (55.40) in the girls 100 freestyle.
Rory Jenkins was another Harford County top-five finisher in the boys 50 freestyle. He finished in 22.73, less than two seconds off the winning time.
Two Harford County representatives had top-three finishes in the 100 breaststroke. For the girls, it was Edgewood junior Catherine Whipkey in third (1:11.12). On the boys side, North Harford’s Michael O’Leary finished second (59.34) by a half tick.
Harford Tech led all area boys teams with 115 points and a seventh place finish. Fallston paced Harford County girls teams behind 75 points and, good for 10th place in the state.
