Miguel joins a Jazz team as part of a large guard class.
Former Maryland men’s basketball guard Selton Miguel has signed with the Utah Jazz as an undrafted free agent, his foundation M3M Foundations announced Friday.

Miguel was part of the feared “Crab Five” lineup, starting in each of Maryland’s 36 games this past season.
The former USF and Kansas State guard averaged 11.6 points per game and 1.8 rebounds per game during his lone season in College Park while shooting 43.2% from the field and 42.4% from beyond the arc.
The guard, who goes by the nickname “Hollywood”, mixed show-stopping performances with box-office flops. 24-point performances in consecutive games against Saint Francis (Pa.) and Syracuse underlined his potential, but a scoreless, 0-for-7 outing against Florida in the Sweet Sixteen highlighted inconsistency that Miguel will have to fix to make the league.
He will face an uphill battle in his attempts to impress during Jazz training camp as part of a crowded rookie guard corps. Utah drafted former Rutgers star Ace Bailey with the fifth overall pick of the draft and traded up to select Florida alum and Final Four Most Outstanding Player Walter Clayton Jr. with the draft’s 18th pick. The Jazz also signed former Rutgers man RJ Luis Jr. to a two-way contract after the draft.
If he is able to make the team, Miguel would be just the second Angolan to ever play in the NBA, joining his cousin and former Maryland star Bruno Fernando in that distinction.
