Four Shoppers grocery stores in Maryland are slated to close in early November, the store’s parent company said last week.
The store’s parent company, United Natural Foods, Inc. told USA Today that by Nov. 8, locations in College Park, Laurel, Capitol Heights and Germantown will be closing for the purpose of strengthening the business for future retailers.
Store closure locations are as follows:
- College Park: 4720 Cherry Hill Road
- Laurel: 13600 Baltimore Ave., Suite 100
- Capitol Heights: 4801 Marlboro Pike
- Germantown: 18066 Mateny Road
The November closures follow the closure of four Shoppers locations last month in Essex, Westminster, New Carrollton and Waldorf. When these closures were announced in August, United Natural Foods, Inc. told The Baltimore Sun that “like any other retailer” they are “constantly working to optimize” their footprint.”
“Which includes investing in stores as well as closing stores where necessary so we can operate as effectively and efficiently as possible,” the company said in a statement.
According to USA Today, United Natural Foods, Inc. said that it supports workers at the stores who want to move to other Shoppers locations if openings are available.
