Some Baltimore County Public School employees will have to reapply for their jobs, the latest measure in the district’s continued cost reduction efforts.
Superintendent Myriam Rogers confirmed during Tuesday night’s school board meeting that some employees will have to reapply for their jobs. Rogers said the central office and non-school-based position hiring freeze would be extended in light of the fiscal situation.
Rogers didn’t specify how many employees would be subject to this reapplication process in her report to the board, but she implied that roles affected would be primarily be non-school-based positions.
“If you have multiple positions and that is being reduced by a certain number, there has to be a fair process where all staff members who are part of that position get to express their interest and go through the interview process.”
Internal staff members will have the opportunity to express their interest in being considered, she said.
The announcement came after last week’s news that the school district will renegotiate its compensation agreements with the five unions with which it had a three-year compensation agreement.
“I don’t believe that there is anyone in Team BCPS … that does not want to fund year two in full of the compensation package,” Rogers said Tuesday.
