Terps in the NFL: Diggs and Moore go head-to-head

Here’s how former Maryland football players performed in the NFL this past week.

Toward the end of the NFL’s Week 2 slate, two of the most recognizable Maryland football alums competed against each other in a primetime matchup.

In the end, Stefon Diggs and the Houston Texans held on for a 19-13 win on Sunday Night Football over D.J. Moore and the Chicago Bears.

Neither former Maryland wide receiver hauled in a touchdown, but Moore did lead all Bears’ pass catchers with six catches on 10 targets for 53 yards. Moore has now paced Chicago in receiving yards and receptions in each of the Bears’ first two games, providing a reliable option for rookie quarterback Caleb Williams.

Four of Diggs’ six catches on the night came in the second half. Diggs finished with 37 receiving yards on six targets, a performance that was overshadowed by a monster game from wide receiver Nico Collins (eight catches, 135 yards and a touchdown).

Indianapolis Colts safety Nick Cross wrecked havoc at Lambeau Field in a loss to the Green Bay Packers. For the second straight week, the former three-time All-Big Ten honorable mention set new single-game career highs and led all players in tackles with 15 (10 solo). Cross made 12 tackles in the first half alone.

Under the lights of Thursday Night Football, Buffalo Bills running back Ty Johnson pulled in the longest catch of his six-year NFL career. Running a wheel route out of the backfield on third-and-12, Johnson snuck behind the Miami defense for a 33-yard gain. Johnson was tackled at the 1-yard line, leaving him just inches away from what would have been his fifth career touchdown.
