What a wonderful tribute to Richard Campbell Donohue by Jason Coleman and his students at St. Paul’s School, who brought Donohue’s story to light (St. Paul’s students travel back in history with trip to the Netherlands to honor WWII hero, July 9). It’s so important for young people to have a sense of the reasons for and the cost of preserving democracy — especially in this day and age.
It’s amazing that Donohue took himself out of school in his junior year and enlisted in the Army Air Corps. I’m so glad to know about it, and if Donohue still has family members living in the area, they must be so proud.
“We recited the St. Paul’s School prayer and a number of the students cried. We all got something out of what we had traveled so far for,” Coleman said. So touching.
