Despite some of his comments about Baltimore this year, President Donald Trump was greeted with more cheers than boos and chants of “USA” upon arriving at Saturday’s Army-Navy Game at M&T Bank Stadium.
The president stood between Navy quarterback Blake Horvath and nose guard Landon Robinson as he performed the coin toss. Army won the toss and chose to play defense first.
Fans filing into the game Saturday passed through heightened security — including metal detectors, Secret Service agents and TSA officers — ahead of Trump’s arrival. Social media showed snipers positioned high above the crowd ahead of Trump’s arrival.
Here are more Trump administration headlines from Saturday:
Syria retaliation: Trump says “there will be very serious retaliation” after two U.S. service members and one American civilian were killed in an attack in Syria that the United States blames on the Islamic State group.
Trump said Syria’s president, was “devastated by what happened” and stressed that Syria was fighting alongside U.S. troops. U.S. Central Command said three service members were wounded in an ambush Saturday by a lone IS member in central Syria. Trump said the three “seem to be doing pretty well.” The U.S. military said the gunman was killed.
Thai-Cambodian border: Fighting is raging along the Thailand-Cambodia border, despite Trump’s claim of a new ceasefire agreement. Thai officials say they did not agree to a ceasefire, and Cambodia has not commented directly.
On Saturday, Thai jets reportedly carried out airstrikes, and the Thai Foreign Minister criticized Trump’s remarks as inaccurate. The conflict, which began with a skirmish on Dec. 7, has displaced over half a million people and resulted in numerous casualties. Both sides continue to blame each other for the violence, and Thailand’s navy has now joined the fighting.
