On this week’s episode of the Under the Shell Podcast, hosts Brendan Weissel, Sam Jane and Michael Howes are joined by No. 3 Maryland men’s lacrosse defenseman Jackson Canfield.
The graduate student appeared in all 17 games and started 14 in 2024, recording 18 ground balls and five caused turnovers. He’s played in all 11 games this season.
Canfield emphasized the team’s focus on resetting each week and playing to their standard, especially after losses, which has fueled strong bounce-back performances like the one against Ohio State. He also discussed the team’s motivation heading into the Johns Hopkins rivalry game and the Big Ten Tournament, stressing the importance of playing smart, consistent lacrosse regardless of the opponent’s ranking.
“Our team motto is to be the best. So we want that with everything we do, especially after a loss,” Canfield said. “We want to take every game as serious as possible.”
The hosts also discussed Buzz Williams and Brenda Frese’s recent transfer portal additions to their teams, baseball’s continued skid and the goalkeeping mishaps for women’s lacrosse.
