Dan Rodricks’ reflections on the bridge collapse are poignant (“Dan Rodricks: The Key Bridge disaster and the shock we feel,” March 26). One thing missing from any of the news I’ve obsessively pored over is what efforts were made to reach the construction workers on the bridge to tell them to leave immediately?
Fortunately, an emergency response system saved lives by stopping traffic when the mayday signal was received. But what emergency preparedness plan was in place to communicate with workers on the bridge?
Yes, this was an extremely rare, seemingly random, event. But, as we ask questions about the Francis Scott Key Bridge and the container ship Dali, let’s also question how these workers came to be left behind to fall to their deaths.
