1,800-Yard Wide Receiver Could Be On Trade Block – Ravens, Chiefs Among Suitors

November 1, 2024 by Last Word On Pro Football

1,800-yard wide receiver, Joshua Palmer could be on the trade block this season and the Ravens, Chiefs are among the four possible suitors. One report believes that even if the Chargers want to add a wideout, but they may not have Palmer in their long-term season plans. Palmer was originally the 2021 NFL Draft choice by Los Angeles but his inconsistent issues have been hindering his early career which may indicate he’s probably better off heading to a new roster for a fresh start. Any receiver that the Chargers get Justin Herbert, would probably be Palmer’s replacement since he’s in the final year of his deal in Los Angeles.

However, some may think that it could weaken their receiving room but if they act fast before this year’s trade deadline, they could get some solid draft capital. Earlier this offseason, Quentin Johnston was a part of those trade rumors so it’s only a matter of time what Jim Harbaugh does to help build a solid passing game to get behind rookie Ladd McConkey. It won’t be easy for Los Angeles to trade Palmer but it makes sense if they don’t have any long-term plans for him, especially having a quarterback like Herbert who is in a “win now” mindset. The Chargers are still in the playoff picture at 4-3 so it’ll be a trade to watch since Harbaugh has been putting all of his focus on building a solid running game.

Possible Trade Destinations

Baltimore Ravens

After trading for Diontae Johnson, the Ravens could still be building their wide receiving room when the season is over. Johnson is likely a one-time experiment to test the waters in the playoffs but someone like Palmer could be their long-term WR3. Palmer is no better than Johnson but it might be smart to play the longevity of this offense to find a replacement for Nelson Agholor. One report says Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman are still their top two targets despite trading for Johnson so it shows that Johnson probably won’t receive an extension after the 2024 playoffs.

Kansas City Chiefs

It may be a little harder to pull a Palmer and Kansas City trade since the Chargers probably don’t want the Chiefs to get all the weapons in the world. However, Kansas City could be thinking long-term by bringing in Palmer to help rookie Xavier Worthy. Palmer is a worthy receiver for Patrick Mahomes to make those quick passes to. It wouldn’t be a complete gamble for the Chiefs except for what time of draft capital the Chargers want in return.

Kansas City walked in with Marquise Brown and Rashee Rice as their top two receiving options but injuries struck again. They’re hoping that acquiring DeAndre Hopkins could give them the much-needed firepower they want. However, Hopkins does have his issues with staying healthy, Palmer might not be the biggest threat but it’s a fine consolation prize to restore faith.

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers season may be over but this shouldn’t stop them from rebuilding. One source doesn’t expect them to completely firesale after trading Diontae Johnson but it’s something they should reconsider. Adam Thielen is aging and probably doesn’t have a spot on this roster beyond 2024. Xavier Legette is their main solid option to lead the future of this offense since they’re still figuring out the Bryce Young experiment. However, a fine-tuned wideout like Palmer who already has some years under his belt should be a viable option for whoever steps in as quarterback.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints are on life support despite the 2-0 start at the beginning of the season. A wide receiver like Marquez Valdes-Scantling is an easy replacement for Rashid Shaheed but it isn’t enough for a legitimate playoff run. Chris Olave may still be banged up but the Saints need another wideout either way after releasing A.T. Perry earlier this year. Palmer could probably be an efficient option to be a consistent wideout to help Olave down on the slot.
