The trade deadline is officially over, which means contending teams that didn’t add a cornerback could turn to a veteran like former Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore. While the Indianapolis Colts went for it all with the Sauce Gardner trade, most contenders didn’t do too much to address the cornerback position. Gilmore is not the player he once was, but he was a solid starter for the Minnesota Vikings last year and expressed an interest in playing in 2025 during the offseason.

Fellow free agent Asante Samuel is probably the crown jewel of the free agent cornerbacks now that he’s medically cleared to play. Seeing as he’s far younger, he deserves to draw most of the interest at this point in time. With that being said, Stephon Gilmore is a fine consolation prize for any team looking for a veteran cornerback to shore up the back end of a defense while pursuing a championship.
