5 Teams That Could Draft This 1,000-Yard Wide Receiver

April 17, 2023 by Last Word On Pro Football

Quentin Johnston Teams

TCU’s Quentin Johnston is likely to be one of the first wide receivers selected in the NFL Draft. The big-bodied pass-catcher still needs to iron out a few rough patches in his game, but nobody else in this class has his elite combination of size, speed, and strength. If he pans out, he probably has the highest ceiling of any receiver in this class, and some team in the back half of the first round will take a spot on Quentin Johnston.

5 Teams That Could Draft Quentin Johnston

Baltimore Ravens

Even with Odell Beckham in town, the Baltimore Ravens could still use another reliable receiver on the perimeter. Quentin Johnston might not be the most polished receiver in the 2023 NFL Draft class, but his ceiling is higher than just about anyone’s. On paper, this offense can function with Mark Andrews, Odell Beckham, and a healthy Rashod Bateman as the primary skill position players. Johnston could spend most of his rookie year learning the nuances of the NFL in a situational role before earning a full-time starting job in 2024 when Beckham becomes a free agent.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers need to start thinking about life without Keenan Allen. The longtime star is getting up there in years, and Los Angeles does not have a proper heir to the throne. Stylistically, Quentin Johnston and Keenan Allen are dramatically different players, but perhaps the team could use the NFL Draft to revamp their offense. Mike Williams is one of the best contested catch receivers in the NFL, and combining him and Johnston would give the Chargers one of the most unstoppable red zone offenses in the league. Justin Herbert just needs to throw it up, and one of those two big playmakers will come down with it.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have one of best young receivers in the game in CeeDee Lamb and a solid deep threat in Brandin Cooks. Now, they just need to add a reliable intermediate threat into the mix to complete their offense. In theory, Michael Gallup is supposed to fill that role, but the longtime Cowboy did not play well last year. If the team is worried about Gallup’s longterm outlook, adding Quention Johnston into the mix would be a smart move to ensure this team has enough offensive playmakers.

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints have a young superstar in Chris Olave, but the rest of the wide receiver depth chart leaves a lot to be desired. Michael Thomas is a massive unknown and Rashid Shaheed showed some promise as a rookie, but neither player is a proven commodity at this point in their career. Drafting Quentin Johnston is also a risk, but it’s one the Saints could take if the big wide receiver is still on the board when the team is on the clock.

Kansas City Chiefs

It’s no secret that the Kansas City Chiefs are trying to upgrade their wide receiver position. After losing Juju Smith-Schuster in free agency, the team is down to Kadarius Toney, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Skyy Moore as their top wide receivers. The team has reportedly been linked to DeAndre Hopkins but, as of this posting, the wideout is still a member of the Arizona Cardinals. Johnston is no DeAndre Hopkins, but they play a similar style of game. If Kansas City can’t get the proven veteran, then perhaps they roll the dice on the promising yet untested rookie.
