A Baltimore County police officer died Friday afternoon after experiencing a medical emergency while on duty on New Year’s Eve, according to a statement from the Baltimore County Police Department.
The statement identified the officer as Detective Paul Hoke, 49, of the Homicide and Missing Persons Unit. Hoke was a 30-year veteran of the department who joined in December 1995.
After the medical emergency, Hoke was taken to an area hospital, where he died Friday surrounded by family and friends.
“We are forever grateful to the Hoke family for sharing Paul with us, for the sacrifices they made, and for their unwavering support,” said Chief Robert McCullough. “His years of dedicated service and commitment to public safety reflect the character and work ethic that continue to distinguish the Baltimore County Police Department and its members among the best in the nation.”
The department said funeral arrangements will be released when available in coordination with Hoke’s family.
