Baltimore Ravens Make Cuts, Finalize 53-Man Roster

August 31, 2022 by Maryland Sports Blog

The Baltimore Ravens cut down to the league mandated 53 roster spots on Tuesday. While many of those that were cut weren’t much of a surprise, two former draft picks were released as well as several veterans with chances to make the final roster.

As previously mentioned the Ravens cut two draft picks 2021 fifth-round pick, linebacker Daelin Hayes. As well as 2022 sixth-round pick, running back Tyler Badie. The Ravens hosted free agent running back Kenyan Drake, which likely left Badie on the outside looking in.

Quarterback Anthony Brown was also released on Tuesday. Undrafted out of Oregon, Brown had a strong preseason. So much so that a case was being made to keep Brown on the active roster. Brown is a likely practice squad candidate for the Ravens, but his play this preseason may bring interests from other teams.

The Ravens also released two receivers who shined throughout the preseason in Shemar Bridges and Raleigh Webb. Both Bridges and Webb made plays with each scoring a touchdown, Bridges against Tennessee, and Webb against the Cardinals. With the addition of Demarcus Robinson and the Ravens only carrying five receivers, Webb and Bridges miss out on the opportunity to make the 53-man roster.

On the defensive side of the ball the Ravens released several veterans. Outside linebacker Steven Means who was in his first year with Ravens was released, as well as defensive end Brent Urban who returned to the Ravens after spending the last three seasons with the Titans, Bears, and Cowboys.

In the secondary the Ravens released cornerback Kevon Seymour who had one of the best training camps of his career, before getting hurt in last Saturday’s preseason win over the Commanders. Likely the biggest release of the day was that of veteran safety Tony Jefferson. Jefferson returned to the Ravens late last season and played well during this years preseason. While Jefferson’s role in the secondary was unknown heading into the regular season, the release of the 10-year vet was more than likely do to a numbers game.

Means, Urban, and Jefferson all have strong chances to return to the Ravens once other players are placed on injured reserve, thus freeing up roster spots for their return.

Additional Tuesday releases include:

NT Isaiah Mack

FB Ben Mason

LB Zakoby McClain

RB Nate McCrary

OLB Jeremiah Moon

DT Rayshad Nichols

TE Tony Polijan

WR Makai Polk

DB David Vereen

WR Binjimen Victor

LB Chuck Wiley

DT Aaron Crawford

G Kahlil McKenzie

OT David Sharpe

CB Daryl Worley
