Baltimore Ravens to Induct Terrell Suggs into Ring of Honor

August 25, 2023 by Maryland Sports Blog

The Baltimore Ravens are set to induct Ravens legend Terrell Suggs into their Ring of Honor, with the ceremony set to take place on October 22nd when the Ravens take on the Detroit Lions at M&T Bank stadium. Suggs will become the 14th Raven to be inducted into the Ring of Honor joining his fellow defensive teammates, Haloti Ngata, Ed Reed, and Ray Lewis.

Drafted by the Ravens out of Arizona State in the first-round of the 2023 NFL draft, Suggs would go on to have one of the most dominant careers of any Ravens defender in the history of the franchise. Named the defensive rookie of the year in 2003, Suggs would become a seven-time Pro Bowler, a 2011 First-Team All-Pro, and was named the 2011 NFL defensive player of the year, with a career high 14 sacks that season.

Suggs was also a major contributor to the Ravens 2012 Super Bowl run. After tearing his Achilles during the offseason heading into the 2012 season, it appeared Suggs would be lost for the season. But Suggs was determined to return that season and he did just that, returning in October, less than five months after the injury. Suggs would finish the 2012 season with 22 tackles, two sacks, five quarterback hits, and four pass deflections. In that year’s playoffs Suggs recorded four sacks including two against Peyton Manning in the divisional round, 21 total tackles, and one forced fumble, on the way to his first Lombardi trophy.

Quarterbacks around the league feared Suggs as he racked up a franchise record 132.5 career sacks, including sacking former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger 18 times, including five times in the postseason.

In addition to his 132.5 sacks as a member of the Ravens, Suggs also holds the Ravens franchise record for most career forced fumbles with 35. In his 16 seasons in Baltimore, Suggs played in 229 games, recorded 846 career tackles, seven interceptions, 63 pass deflections, and three touchdowns.

Suggs had an infectious personality that both teammates and Ravens fans flocked to. Suggs never held back on speaking his mind whether it was to the media or trash talking his opponents, but most importantly Terrell Suggs encapsulated what it meant to be a Raven both on and off the field.

Suggs is eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2025.
