After having a resurgent 2025 campaign, the Chicago Bears could lose standout cornerback Nahshon Wright once the season is over. According to a source, they predict the Bears will lose Wright, whose breakout season can earn him a hefty payday with a new roster, and that is likely the case. Chicago will have several impending free agents in the secondary, so they can’t afford to give everyone a large contract extension, which means Wright should have plenty of interest from teams. Originally selected in the third round, the former Oregon State product began his career with the Dallas Cowboys before getting traded to Minnesota.

After signing to the practice squad with the Vikings, Wright never got the opportunity and was released this past offseason. However, he has blossomed into one of the better cornerbacks in the league, recording a 64-yard interception return touchdown in Chicago’s first regular season game this year. Due to injuries in the secondary, Wright took advantage of the opportunity to see increased starting action.
The cornerback was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Month in November, so it’s been one rollercoaster season for the cornerback in a good way. While no one can depend on him based on one good season, Wright has the potential to intrigue a team to sign him to at least a three-year contract worth a lot of money. He won’t get the most, but he’s a shutdown specialist, and these teams will likely be interested.
Potential Fits
Dallas Cowboys
While the Dallas Cowboys have built one of the best interior defenses, the same can’t be said about their secondary. With DaRon Bland heading for his second surgery and Trevon Diggs barely healthy, the Cowboys need to revitalize the air attack. Dallas has no chance to make the playoffs anymore, but this gives them a head start on what they want their secondary to be.
They’ve attempted to find some relief from Kaiir Elam in a trade this past offseason, but he hasn’t lived up to the potential. With safety Donovan Wilson likely to depart, the Cowboys should reunite with Nahshon Wright to fight for a starting role with Diggs and move rookie Shavon Revel Jr. to backup duties.
Baltimore Ravens
Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens are getting older defensively. This means that Baltimore must get younger in the secondary since veterans like Jaire Alexander didn’t work out. With Marlon Humphrey getting older, it might be safer for the Ravens to sign Wright to the unit to give the air attack a boost. Chidobe Awuzie is average at best, and Nate Wiggins is somewhat reliable in situational moments.
The Ravens should let Awuzie go and sign Wright, as he’s obviously the upgrade. This should give the Ravens some type of life heading into the younger area.
Carolina Panthers
However, the Carolina Panthers have a promising future on defense. After signing Tershawn Wharton and Tre’Von Moehrig, the defense has improved dramatically and given quarterback Bryce Young several opportunities to get near the redzone. This means that the Panthers must build a fortified defense.
Despite signing Michael Jackson and Jaycee Horn to new contracts, Carolina could sign Wright and bring one last push for probably the best secondary in the NFC for next season.
