The Baltimore Ravens have made their presence felt on the trade market over the past few seasons, swinging deals for players such as cornerback Marcus Peters, defensive lineman Calais Campbell and defensive end Yannick Ngakoue. General manager Eric DeCosta is always looking to upgrade his team, and will explore all avenues in order to do so.
When listing out one ideal trade for every NFL team, Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report said that Baltimore should make a move for Minnesota Vikings edge rusher Danielle Hunter. Ballentine mentioned how when Hunter is healthy, he is one of the best pass rushers in the league.
“Danielle Hunter has proven to be that guy when healthy. He missed all of 2020 because of neck surgery and only played in seven games this season before suffering a torn pectoral muscle that ended his season…But in those seven games, he had six sacks—enough to rank No. 2 on the team in Baltimore.”
As Ballentine notes, Hunter has had problems with injuries over the course of the last two season, but didn’t miss a game from 2016 through 2019. Aside from the 2020 season where he didn’t play, Hunter hasn’t had a year with lower than six sacks, and is a proven force coming off of the edge.
Hunter would be a phenomenal addition to the Ravens’ defense. Despite that, it’s unclear how much draft capital that Baltimore would want to part with for a player like Hunter, and the team would also have to work out how to fit his contract under their books. If the Ravens can somehow make it work to acquire Hunter, he can make an impact on the field when healthy. However, his recent injury is a cause for concern.
