Blockbuster Trade Proposed Between Ravens, Jets

September 4, 2024 by Last Word On Pro Football

Haason Reddick Trade

The Haason Reddick trade saga is alive and well, and one NFL analyst believes the pass rusher could find another home before he ever plays a snap for the Jets. Reddick entered the 2024 offseason looking for a revised contract after recording 27 sacks during his two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles, however, traded him to the Jets for a third-round pick, with New York believing he’d play under his current contract.

That didn’t happen. Haason Reddick skipped training camp and the preseason while demanding a new deal and recently requested a trade. While the Jets say they won’t trade the two-time Pro Bowler, Alex Kay of Bleacher Report believes New York could give in and send him to the Baltimore Ravens.

Bleacher Report: Ravens, Jets Could Agree to Haason Reddick Trade

It’s easy to see why the Ravens would want to trade for Haason Reddick. Last year, the team led the NFL with 60 sacks, thanks in large part to their deep group along the defensive front. They’ll struggle to replicate that success in 2024, as star edge defender Jadeveon Clowney is now on the Carolina Panthers. 33-year-old Kyle Van Noy and former first-round pick Odafe Oweh are reliable complementary players, but this defense could use someone like Reddick with double-digit sack potential.

Pairing Reddick with the Nnamdi (formerly Justin) Madubuike should give the Ravens one of the best 1-2 pass-rushing duos in the game. Combining these two stars with Oweh and Van Noy will make life miserable for opposing quarterbacks, which will be crucial for the 2024 season. The Ravens play in a remarkably competitive AFC and could use all the help they can get to take down the Kansas City Chiefs, Cincinnati Bengals, and Buffalo Bills. The only question is whether the Jets would ever agree to a Haason Reddick trade.

Would the Jets Make This Deal?

It takes two to tango, so the Jets would need to get a worthwhile return to justify a Haason Reddick trade. Kay thinks that the Ravens could get Reddick in exchange for a fourth-round pick, but that’s tough to believe. The Jets sent a conditional third-round selection to Philadelphia for Reddick’s services, so accepting a fourth-round pick would mean they effectively traded a third-round pick for a 2026 fourth-round pick. That’s bad business no matter how you slice it, but even if the Jets could break even, it’s hard to envision them sending him to the Ravens.

The New York Jets are all-in on the 2024 season. After watching Zach Wilson fail to lead an offense during his first two years in the league, New York acquired Aaron Rodgers during the 2023 offseason. Unfortunately, he ruptured his Achilles after just four snaps and missed the majority of the season. Now entering his age-41 season, this could be Rodgers’ last hurrah and the Jets will try to do everything within their power to hoist the Lombardi at the end of the season.

This means going through Baltimore, as the Ravens are one of the premier teams in the conference. Even if he never plays a snap for the team, the Jets would probably prefer to hold on to Haason Reddick rather than trade him to a conference rival.
