Breaking: Bears Will “Cut” Former Pro Bowler After NFL Draft

April 19, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

bears cut dandre swift

Assuming the rebuild, the Chicago Bears will likely cut former Pro Bowler Dandre Swift after the NFL Draft. According to a report, if the Bears end up putting the running back on the trade block and get no suitors, they could release him instead to save both each other’s time. Originally selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the former Georgia product had one of the worst campaigns last year for any running back. Swift was hoping to carve out a full-time role in this offense under quarterback Caleb Williams, but it’s been a complete bust.

Since the Bears have been revamping the entire offensive line, the assumption is that they could draft a running back with the first-round pick this year. If that happens, it seems like Swift could be in a new uniform for next season. Even if the Bears don’t draft Ashton Jeanty, the team will draft a running back either way in later rounds during the draft and the time could be ticking for Swift. However, it might be deja vu again for the running back as new head coach Ben Johnson, who was the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions when Swift was traded.

This might happen to Swift again, so it’s likely that the Bears will embrace the rebuild to surround Williams with homegrown talent. It’ll be interesting to see what happens to Swift, but his future isn’t secure in Chicago and might be better off joining these two teams.

Breaking: Bears Will “Cut” Former Pro Bowler Dandre Swift After NFL Draft – Ravens, Chargers Top Fits

Backing up Derrick Henry

Last offseason, there were question marks about whether veteran Derrick Henry would perform well despite his strong injury history. Henry went on to prove that he’s a capable running back, but as he’s aging, the Ravens could use another backup to help him have fresh legs for the playoffs. Keaton Mitchell might have some upside and there may be a glimmer of hope, but he’s unproven to impress in his return last year. Meanwhile, Justice Hill is the only adequate running back other than Henry on this roster.

Quarterback Lamar Jackson loves to run the football, and that was shown when they had Mark Ingram. Perhaps, Swift can be a better 2.0 version of himself and get those easy yardage down the stretch to make life easier for Henry. The veteran might be slowing down, but trading for Swift could be the best thing possible for the Ravens. He might not rush over 1,000 yards, but in this championship roster, he could do some damage.

Jim’s Trenches

As for Jim Harbaugh, he loves to run the football and wants to establish a ground game for quarterback Justin Herbert. It looks like they found their old-school style type in Najee Harris, but they need a capable replacement after releasing Gus Edwards. Even though Herbert will fling it in the air more often, the Chargers could use another running back to boost Harris’s production. Swift might have had two back-to-back rough seasons, but with Jim, it could all change since he knows how to run the football in the right moments.
