Breaking: Former Bills Fourth Rounder On Trade Block

May 6, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

gabe davis trade block

Former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Gabe Davis is likely on the trade block this upcoming season since the Jacksonville Jaguars are building a new regime. According to a report, one source believes Davis is on thin ice and might not make all three years of his current contract, especially after getting three capable playmakers for quarterback Trevor Lawrence. The Jaguars drafting Travis Hunter in the first round of this year’s draft puts the icing on the cake on Davis’ career with Jacksonville, especially after posting just 20 catches and missing seven games during the 2204 campaign. It makes sense why the Jaguars may consider trading him this upcoming 2025 regular season, as not only has Hunter come in, but Dyami Brown and Brian Thomas Jr., who have a lot of long-term stability for this team’s passing game.

Davis won’t fetch the best draft capital, but he’s still a capable wide receiver who may recapture his prime days he had with the Buffalo Bills. Originally selected in the 2020 NFL Draft, the former UCF product became a consistent playmaker for Josh Allen’s offense, but didn’t fit the billing anymore to remain in Buffalo. After posting 45 receptions for 746 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, it was not enough for the Bills to give him a new deal, so the Jaguars took advantage to sign him. However, things are clearly not working out, so these two should part ways before the season starts this year.

Possible Next Teams

Dallas Cowboys

After the 2025 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys still have one of the worst pass-catching units in the league. The team has no help for star wideout CeeDee Lamb, even though they are reportedly working on “substantive trades” and hoping to salvage the unit for quarterback Dak Prescott. However, after losing Brandin Cooks, the team has been reluctant to improve their wideout unit, so it’s a bit of a head-scratcher what they’re trying to do. They can’t expect the team to be postseason worthy if they can’t afford to get another wide receiver to help Lamb in the aerial attack.

Perhaps, they could trade for Gabe Davis as a temporary fix for their issue. Jalen Tolbert isn’t ready to become a No. 2 receiver, and he could only thrive in situational moments. Other weapons are unknown, so it’s hard to see the Cowboys walking into the campaign with just Lamb.

Los Angeles Chargers

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Chargers have one of the worst receiver units, too. 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey is still the best wide receiver on this roster, and veteran Mike Williams is way past his prime. Tre Harris isn’t going to come in immediately and save this unit, but he does have upside to replace Quentin Johnston. The Chargers have enough cap space to facilitate a trade for Davis, who could turn into a capable third man wideout for Justin Herbert’s pass game.

Baltimore Ravens

It might be time for the Ravens to roll the dice on another wide receiver after not attempting to re-sign Nelson Agholor, who is still on the market. Despite the team signing DeAndre Hopkins, it’s never a bad time to add more depth, especially since Hopkins is only on for a one-year deal. Davis could last longer as he has a lot of years ahead of him as a capable wideout behind Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman.
