After signing Cam Akers to salvage their running back room, there’s a chance that the New Orleans Saints will put Kendre Miller on the trade block this offseason. While the Saints need all of the runners in the world as they will probably rely on the backfield to make plays, no one should doubt the chance the team will send Miller to a new roster. Originally selected in the 2023 NFL Draft, the former TCU product hasn’t been able to establish his stomping grounds with the Saints and got a lot of criticism from former head coach Dennis Allen last year. It was looking like it was close to the Saints releasing Miller, but he kept his job for now, and it looks like that risk is returning as Miller probably won’t carve out a role anymore as a potential backup to Alvin Kamara.
He was hoping to be that solid runner behind Kamara, but after posting 304 rushing yards, 15 receptions for 150 receiving yards, it doesn’t look like his job is safe. The Saints might keep him since they’re without an adequate quarterback, Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler, but it shouldn’t surprise anyone if the trade does happen. Akers might have had his fair share of injury issues related to what Miller went through, but the veteran adds a little more upside behind a team that’s not looking to rebuild. Miller won’t be the best available running back on the trade block, but these four teams could take a chance on him.

Possible Destinations
Dallas Cowboys
As interesting as it sounds, the Dallas Cowboys are in dire need of a capable running back. Between Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams, these two are probably not going to repair the bigger problem on their hands in this backfield room. 2025 draft pick Jaydon Blue is the only running back who has bright spots, a part of this atrocious room. Perhaps, they should trade for another runner like Miller, who is still on his rookie deal and fits the Cowboys’ budget.
Kansas City Chiefs
Meanwhile, the Chiefs have a deep running back room in comparison to the Saints. After signing Elijah Mitchell, there isn’t a lot of room for him to grow since Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco will eat up most of the snaps. However, this could be an opportunity for Miller to develop into a potential explosive running back for the next two seasons, for a possible backup role.
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens must keep salvaging their running back room. The depth doesn’t look promising behind Derrick Henry, despite his contract extension, but he is getting older, and that means fewer snaps for the Pro Bowler. Keaton Mitchell has faith to make some type of impact, but they need some legitimate running back competition since Justice Hill is more of a hit-and-screen type athlete. Miller might not drastically change this run game, but it gives Mitchell another body to share the snaps with.
Los Angeles Chargers
Nobody loves running the football more than Jim Harbaugh. The Los Angeles Chargers are experimenting with the running back room between first-round pick Omarion Hampton and Najee Harris. While Miller won’t be the backup this season if a trade happens, but could be the future duo paired with Hampton if things go his way this upcoming season.
